About Me

about meHello, My name is Yvonne.

Well, Yvonne is the name I picked when I was baptised at 11. Why I picked this name, I do not know. Perhaps, I picked it to impress my brothers and sisters. They were picking western names too.

What the name Yvonne means, I have no idea. I have never bothered to know.

My traditional Yoruba name is Modupe. Modupe, like every Nigerian name has a meaning. Mine means gratitude.

A few months into living in England, the name, Modupe was changed to Yvonne. It was changed because most non-Nigerians do not have the strong Yoruba accent needed to pronounce the name correctly. Without this accent, the meaning of the name Modupe, is lost.

I live in Surrey, England and work as a round-the-clock boss of my household. I try to manage my other half and our two delightful mixed raced daughters.

Vintage fashion, kettlebells and cookbooks are the things I am fanatical about. If I had to pick one, it would be vintage fashion.

This blog is the start of my voyage to be an expert on yours truly. After 40 years of not bothering to know myself, I am now eager to know me.

The RealYvonne blog  is going to reflect my thoughts, passions, everyday life, stories of the things I own and everything Yvonne.

What I know for sure is that  my blog will be witty most of the time, gloomy sometimes but always electrifying.

Lots of love,

Yvonne xxx

Well blow me down, you’re full of surprises, Yvonne. I admire you even more now. You’ll have to include the ‘learning to ride’ sessions in the blog!

Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! I just read all your blogs and I am blown away !!

    You have always been an ardent and a beautiful writer even way back in ABU days when we had not even touched the shores of London ! Your life and journey brings to my mind two passages in the bible;
    1. “So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.”
    2. “For this very purpose i raised you up, to demonstrate my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.”…
I feel you have found your calling and you have been specifically raised to demostrate forgiveness, human ability to change and effect change, the mercy and power of God ! I can’t think of a better forum to showcase your gifts & calling than this.
Am i proud of you? Heck yeah !!!! even more proud of your courage, love of life and audicaty to refuse to be anyone’s victim.
Kudos my dear and I can’t wait to read more posts from you ( no pressure intended 🙂 )
